My U3 smart drive does not eject from my computer

The U3 smart drive is not ejected from the USB socket on the computer when I click the Eject button on the U3 Launchpad main window.

Solution

The Eject button does not physically eject the device from the USB socket. You have to pull it out yourself.

Before you do though, be sure to close all running U3 smart programs.

Clicking the Eject button attempts to close all running programs, lists those it could not, cleans up temporary files on the host computer, and shuts down the U3 smart drive. If you don't click Eject before you remove the device, you could lose data.

The U3 Launchpad main window does not display

The U3 Launchpad main window is not displayed when I insert my U3 smart drive into the USB port on my computer.

Solution

If the U3 icon  does not display, use the Windows Explorer to run LaunchU3.exe from the U3 smart drive Removable Disk partition.

You can set the U3 Launchpad to start automatically upon insertion. Go to the Autorun feature in the U3 Launchpad settings.

The U3 Launchpad main window does not stay open

When I select an option on the U3 Launchpad main window, the window closes and I have to click the U3 icon  in the Windows system tray to open it each time I want to do something.

Solution

This is the proper behavior. U3 Launchpad performs the same way as the Windows Start menu, which also closes after you select an option.

I do not want my programs to run automatically

One of the programs that I have installed in U3 Launchpad runs each time I insert my U3 smart drive into my computer. I donít want the program to run automatically; I want to be able to control when it runs.

Solution

Some programs have been designed to start automatically when you insert the U3 smart drive into your computer. You can turn this option off by clearing the auto-launch checkbox for the application. See Program Settings for the description.

How do I update my version of an installed program?

I have a U3 smart program installed on my U3 smart drive that I know has a newer version available. How do I update my version of the program?

Solution

U3 Launchpad has a mechanism for updating U3 smart programs, however, the program must be configured for automatic update. When it is, the U3 Launchpad handles the update automatically.

If the program does not support automatic update, you must remove the current version and then install the newer version. See Updating Existing Programs for the description.

How do I check that I am using the latest version of U3 Launchpad?

I am not sure if I am using the latest version of U3 Launchpad. How do I check this?

Solution

U3 Launchpad has a feature that checks to see if you are using the latest version. Go to the U3 Launchpad Settings Updates tab for more information.

What programs can I install on my U3 smart drive?

How do I know what programs I can install on my U3 smart drive?

Solution

Only U3 smart programs give you the mobility that enables you to run the program from any computer. You can install these applications using the U3 Launchpad from U3 Software Central, a Partner application directory, or from a .u3p file . See Adding Programs for the description.

The U3 Launchpad icon does not appear in the system tray.

I insert my U3 smart drive into the USB port of my computer but the U3 Launchpad icon does not appear in the system tray. What should I do?

Solution

Verify that your computer runs a supported operating system. U3 Launchpad supports Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. On non supported operating systems, such as Linux, Unix, or Mac OS, your U3 smart drive behaves as a regular USB flash drive. This means that you can browse your data files but you cannot run the U3 smart applications or use the advanced features of U3.

Can I change the language used in the U3 Launchpad main window?

Can the language used in the U3 Launchpad main window be changed?

Solution

Yes. U3 Launchpad supports all the languages listed in Languages Supported. To change the default language for U3 Launchpad  and the user help go to the U3 Launchpad Settings Preferences tab.

The U3 Launchpad does not start automatically when I insert the U3 smart drive.

I want the U3 Launchpad to start automatically every time I insert the U3 smart drive. However, I don't want other media to start automatically, for example, a CD when I insert it into my CD drive

Solution

Some host computers are set up to ignore any autorun software on CDs, DVDs, and USB drives. The U3 Launchpad does not automatically load on computers configured this way. If you would like to keep your computer's setting but still have the U3 Launchpad load automatically, see Launcher description in the Autorun tab in the U3 Launchpad Settings menu for instructions that put a small program on the host computer that automatically recognizes the insertion of a U3 smart drive and runs only the U3 Launchpad.

I don't know who to call when my program has problems.

I have a problem running/installing/closing my program. Who do I call for help?

Solution

U3 does not write the U3 smart programs. The software vendor is the only one who can help you with U3 smart program installation and operation. To find out how to contact the vendor, go to the Program Settings window, click on the program icon, and then click on the vendor link.
